The PCI Express connector series is available in a 1.0mm contact center configuration. These connectors follow the PCI-SIG standards in which the architecture is based on point-to-point serial links, rather than the shared parallel bus used in the older PCI, PCI-X, and AGP standards. The PCI Express connectors have a number of fixed sizes (or lanes) to fit different sizes of expansion cards. A lane is made up of a pair of transmitting and receiving lines and transfers data packets in an 8-bit (1 byte) format between two points in both directions simultaneously. A PCIe slot may contain from one to thirty-two lanes, in powers of two (1, 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32). The lane counts are written with an 'x' prefix (pronounced as ‘by’, and for example, ×16 represents a sixteen-lane card or slot). Additionally, the PCI Express connectors are available in various termination types like dip solder, right angle, SMT, and card extender, as well as in various mounting styles like straddle mount, extended pegs, clips, clamps, and handles to accommodate different application needs. All PCI Express parts are available in either gold flash, 10u” gold, or 30u” gold on contact area and 100u” tin on termination.
