Although there are many ways to actuate a Reed Switch, there are some areas of caution that need to be considered when designing a magnetic sensing system. In certain applications where the number of Reed Switch close-open operations is counted, careful consideration of the placement of the magnet relative to the Reed Switch is required. If the magnet is placed incorrectly, its motion could cross into activation lobes that cause multiple close-open operations in one motion cycle.
