Infineon Technologies solid state isolators (SSIs) transfer both signal and energy across the isolation barrier using a coreless transformer. This eliminates the need for an isolated output supply and is suitable for low-frequency switching, combined with a switch for mechanical, photovoltaic, or solid-state relay replacement. They are more reliable than electromechanical relays (EMR), provide higher output driving capability than photovoltaic isolators (PVI), and come with integrated protection features.

These solid state isolators provide energy transmission over a galvanic isolation barrier, eliminating the need for an isolated power supply to drive the gates of power transistors (CoolMOS™, OptiMOS™, TRENCHSTOP™ IGBT, CoolSiC™ or CoolSiC™ JFET, mid-voltage CoolGaN™ BDS). No isolated output gate voltage supply is required to drive the power transistor as seen in the figure under Resources. Protection features such as overcurrent protection, overtemperature protection and dynamic Miller clamp are included to build up solid-state relays easily and safely.
